Queen of the South tells the powerful story of Teresa Mendoza, a woman who is forced to run and seek refuge in America after her drug-dealing boyfriend is unexpectedly murdered in Mexico. In the process, she teams up with an unlikely figure from her past to bring down the leader of the very drug trafficking ring that has her on the run.
Teresa flees Mexico after her drug-runner boyfriend is murdered. Settling in Dallas she looks to become the country's reigning drug smuggler and to avenge her lover's murder.
I got as far as season one, episode four, and was obliged to shut it down. I was enjoying the show, loved the actors and the story….but the English subtitles, whenever Spanish was spoken, were starting to get me down. I couldn't read them fast enough, before they disappeared. I generally avoid any films with subtitles, but took a chance on this one because the language was declared as 'English' on the IMDb file.
When it comes to hour-long dramas, CBS is the most watched network. Queen of the South on USA is better than anything on CBS. That makes it pretty damn good. USA network has never been better. That's not to say every show is HBO quality but compared to the summertime game shows the big networks are offering Queen Of The South was the best show ever filmed in the history of television.
